My name is Jamie Wilde. I am currently studying for my Honorary Degree this year in Popular Music at Perth UHI.  Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember. From a very young age I was buying and listening to a huge variety of CDs and MP3s and my passion hasn't died down since. I play lead guitar in a couple of bands in my spare time which has been going great so far with gig opportunities coming from all over the country. I also have recent music writing experience with non-profit music reviewing business, Discovery Music which has increased my awareness and understanding about up and coming music across the country which is something I am very passionate about as well as offering me an insight  into the music journalism field.

I currently study music at Perth UHI in which I am aiming for my Honours degree this year. I feel that this course has taught me a substantial amount of different things over the current period of time that I have studied there. Although the course focuses on technical/instrument study at times, I have learnt valuable information about the music industries as a whole and how many different sectors defined within these industries work together (live music industry, recording industry etc). I have also learnt a vast amount about recording and production techniques for music along with songwriting techniques. 

 

Furthermore, last year I had the opportunity to undertake an eight- week classroom teaching placement at my former school, Morgan Academy, which allowed me to explore music pedagogy. This was an incredibly rewarding experience. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing many pupils' own passion and understanding of music build week by week with each lesson I undertook. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that was presented to me to take on the placement and it has undoubtedly inspired me to pursue music pedagogy as a career in the future.
